This charity's big idea is that it doesn't work to spend lots of money to truck lots of food to a country whenever there is a crisis. It's better to manufacture nutritious food locally; that it turns provides jobs for the people who are served, and creates a sense of solidarity between the local people and those helping them.
They work in Haiti, and are still a relatively small charity. |

| 40 Days for life leader on Hannity's radio show today |
[Dec. 26th, 2008|10:30 am] |
Of course, I'm not saying I think Hannity's a great guy, but the 40 Days for life message deserves to be heard.
I quote from one of David Bereit's emails:
"Wanted to let you know that I have now gotten the specific details about my appearance on the Sean Hannity radio show later today -- Friday 12/26.
The time when I will be on air is from 4:30-5:00 PM Eastern time (1:30-2:00 PM Pacific).
After realizing some people were confused by my previous message, I wanted to clarify -- this is Sean Hannity's nationally syndicated RADIO show, not a television program.
You can find a station carrying the program near you by visiting: http://www.hannity.com and entering your zip code in the form at the top right of the page.
Also, there will be a guest host sitting in for Sean Hannity on today's program: popular North Dakota talk show host and radio station owner Scott Hennen, who has been heavily involved in two 40 Days for Life campaigns in Fargo. Scott is a dynamo (which explains why he was asked to guest host in Hannity's absence!)
Pray that this show helps to generate new awareness and mobilize people in the 40 Days for Life effort!
In Christ,
David Bereit National Campaign Director 40 Days for Life http://www.40daysforlife.com/donate
P.S.- Have a VERY happy New Years. I think 2009 will be a great year of growth for the pro-life movement!" |

| Happy Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception! |
[Dec. 8th, 2008|12:44 pm] |
St. Meinrad School of Theology, my third institution of Catholic higher learning, is the first to have given us a holiday for Dec. 8's celebration of the Immaculate Conception. Even at Our Lady's University, classes goes on. At the University of Dallas, I had an exam on Dec 8, once, I think. But here, we slept in, had morning prayer in common, then a beautiful mass (Behold the handmaid of the Lord: be it done unto me according to thy word), and finally a banquet for lunch, complete with ham. The rest of the day we have to catch up, rather fall further behind, on our final papers. I am so giddy, despite my essays to be written, that I have time for this post.
I want to share my favorite poem about Our Lady. I got it from Wikipedia. One winter I used to say it walking to class through the snow; I almost had it memorized.
I syng of a mayden That is makeles; Kyng of alle Kynges To her Son she ches.
He cam al so stylle There his moder was As dew in Aprylle That fallyt on the gras;
He cam al so stylle To his moderes bowr As dew in Aprylle That fallyt on the flour;
He cam al so stylle There his moder lay As dew in Aprylle That fallyt on the spray;
Moder and mayden Was never non but she; Wel may swych a lady Godes moder be. |
